URLARI EXPANDS

At Urlari we have big plans to continue growing and enhancing our vineyards, wines, and process. We are excited to announce a few large projects that are in the works currently.

The New Cellar

In order to further improve the quality of the Urlari wines we are building a new Cellar where we will use “Gravity flow winemaking" processes. This is a method of producing wine that relies on gravity to move grapes and wine through the various stages of production, rather than using mechanical pumps or other forceful means. This approach is considered by many winemakers to be more gentle on the grapes, must and wine.

The Cellar will have capacity of producing around 70,000 bottles, and will have barrel and bottle storage matching this production volume.  Once completed, it will be open for visits, consumer tastings and purchase of our wines.

New Planting

In 2021, Urlari acquired an additional 24 hectare / 60 acres of land to be cultivated.  The new property offers a combination of east and south facing land, and is very well suited for Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.  This first 2.5 hectare / 6.25 acres was planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in 2022.

In 2023 we planted another 2 hectare / 5 acres with Cabernet Sauvignon.  In order to do this, we had to replant 400 olive trees.

Ortus Solis

Since 2019 we have been working on creating a new and more modern blend, using our best grapes.  In 2021 we fermented our Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon in oak barrels.  After two years using a combination of new and old French oak barrels, the blend was finalized and bottled in 2023.  We are very happy and proud to welcome “Ortus Solis” to our family of wines.
